  • Our Bodies and CBD

    October 22, 2019 2 min read

As more disturbing news about our healthcare industry and big pharmaceutical companies develops, my commitment to living a more natural lifestyle solidifies. I truly believe that everything we humans need to be healthy can be found in nature. We just need to know how to access and use it.

Our Bodies and CBD l Mukha Yoga

Cannabis in all its forms has been controversial throughout history. It now seems that much of what was believed about it is untrue, or we simply hadn’t tapped into its true magic: cannabidiol (CBD).

Our bodies are equipped with an endocannabinoid system, which is believed to be in charge of homeostasis (keeping the internal body stable). It reacts specifically to CBD (which doesn’t get you “high”- that’s THC’s job) to help the body heal itself. Much of its benefit comes from its anti-inflammatory properties.

And CBD is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa plant, meaning we haven’t even scratched the surface of its potential!

CBD extracted from the plant and diluted with a carrier oil like hemp seed or coconut oil can be used in muscle rubs or added to food. Recent scientific studies show that CBD may relieve symptoms of chronic pain, acne, anxiety, neurological disorders like Parkinson’s, and epilepsy. It can even lower blood pressure.

At this time, no major side effects have been linked to CBD use; however, a few instances of loose bowels and fatigue were reported, as well as some changes in appetite or weight. Be sure to consult your doctor if you are taking medications or supplements with the “grapefruit warning.” CBD interferes with the same enzymes, which are needed to process some meds efficiently.

The legality of CBD varies from state to state and its role on the federal level depends on whether it is extracted from pure hemp (legal) or cannabis (not legal).

As scientists continue to collect data and evidence of CBD’s benefits becomes more mainstream, I hope more of us have affordable access to it. I know it’s been a positive addition in my life!
