  • 8 Ways to Embrace the Winter Solstice | with a guided meditation

    December 20, 2021 3 min read

In times of darkness, as in the Winter Solstice, we are given the opportunity to fully embrace all aspects of ourselves. When we can acknowledge that we all have parts of us that are dark - sometimes in the form of wounds - and that we also naturally have radiant light within us as well, we can then accept that both the light and the dark complete the whole of who we are.

Until we illuminate wounds, they remain stuck in the dark and cannot be healed. But once we own our shadow wounds, we can begin to nurture these hidden aspects of ourselves, shining the light on them to restore our inner peace.

Below are steps we can take to shine from within and let peace be our guide:

    1. Forgive — Until we let grace in, we cannot proceed with healing.
    2. Accept — Now is the time to fully see what occurred, accept it’s done, and move on.
    3. Be compassionate — We all require love and reassurance. Remember getting in trouble as a child? If you’re like me, I just wanted someone to tell me everything was alright, that I could let go of any guilt or shame. Well, just because we’re adults doesn’t mean these needs are no longer there. Let’s show some self-compassion.
    4. Encourage —Why wait to hear it from someone else when we possess the ability to propel ourselves forward?
    5. Be open to change — Isn’t the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result? If we don’t make changes, then we’ll just remain on the hamster wheel, soon finding ourselves in a similar situation, though most likely with higher stakes. That’s the thing about the Universe — it keeps providing lesson after lesson until we finally get the message.
    6. Trust — It requires courage and willingness to leave our comfort zone.
    7. Surrender — After we find it in ourselves to trust, we then can surrender our need to control the outcome.
    8. Allow — If we trust and let go of the need to hold the reigns, we permit the Universe to operate in alignment.

8 Ways to Embrace the Winter Solstice | Mukha Yoga

If we are open to embracing the darkness we experience in nature, we can see what needs attention, love, and light, instead of ignoring what we prefer not to acknowledge. Let this Winter Solstice be the time for you to love all parts of yourself, shine the light on the positive, and heal the pain within.
