Heart Chakra Flow | Mukha Yoga

We are living at a time where having an open heart is a challenging practice. Bottled up emotions, feelings of isolation or grief can contribute to destabilizing our heart chakra. However, we can use yoga to reverse these feelings and this heart-opening chakra flow is just the ticket.

    Heart Chakra Yoga Flow

    1. Quick heart chakra visualization: Start sitting on your mat and close your eyes. Take a couple of natural breaths. Move your attention to your chest and visualize a bright green light shining from your heart center. Continue breathing and imagine that light getting brighter as you inhale love and forgiveness. With each exhale imagine everything that you want to let go of leaving your body and making space for more love and radiance. Continue for a few more breaths and when you feel ready open your eyes.
    2. Cat/Cow: Go to all fours and do a few rounds of cat and cow, focusing on opening your chest.
    3. Puppy Pose: Stretch your arms forward and lower your chest toward the floor, extending your back and lifting your hips.
    4. Thread the Needle: Push against the floor to lift your chest. Raise your right arm to the side to enter Thread the Needle Pose. You can keep the left arm on the floor or challenge yourself to extend it to the ceiling. Switch arms.
    5. Go back to all fours and enter Downward Facing Dog.

    6. Take the right foot between your hands and enter a low lunge. Settle into the lunge and extend your arms to the side, making a letter “T”. As you do, open your chest and look up. Bring your arms down and switch legs

    7. Ardha Uttanasana (half-forward fold): Bring your back leg forward, place your hands on your thighs and look forward, expanding your back.

    8. Tadasana (mountain pose): Bring yourself forward and breathe in Tadasana.

    9. Tadasana with bind: Clasp your hands behind your back, pull them down and away from your body as you look up.

    10. Uttanasana (standing forward fold) with bind: Hold the bind and bend forward with your legs stretched.

    11. Utkatasana (chair pose): Release the bind and sit in Chair Pose.

    12. Return to half-forward flow pose then flow to Downward Facing Dog.

    13. Chaturanga (low plank) on your knees: Place your knees on the floor and lower your chest to the ground.

    14. Baby Cobra Pose: Move your hands under your shoulder and gently lift your chest while rotating the shoulders back.

    15. Locust Pose: Extend your arms back, parallel to the floor and lift your chest and legs.

    16. Bow Pose: Bring your chest and legs down, and take a couple of breaths. Bend your knees and grasp the outside of your feet. Pull your feet up while lifting your chest, balancing on your stomach. Make sure your shoulders are rotating externally.

    17. Release your feet and enter Downward Facing Dog. Hold the posture for a couple of breaths.

    18. Walk your hands to your feet and enter Uttanasana (standing forward fold).

    19. Slowly raise your body and finish in Tadasana (mountain pose).

    20. You may choose to end your practice with a guided meditation or journaling session.
