CBD Types and Uses l The Community Hub l Mukha YogaAs many of us turn away from Big Pharma and Western medicine’s affinity for prescription drugs to treat muscle and joint pain, as well as psychological ailments, it’s heartening to see CBD products on the shelves of our favorite stores, available to all for mental and physical relief. More specialized items can be found at your neighborhood dispensary too.

Did you know that CBD is only one of about 70 types of cannabinoids found in the typical cannabis plant? It seems we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what these amazing chemical compounds can do!

There are three main types of CBD, each possessing unique benefits:

Full Spectrum. When the naturally occurring cannabinoids are left intact, we get full spectrum CBD. This contains a trace amount of THC (usually .3% or less). Why would one want THC, which is generally viewed as “the part that gets you high,” in your extract? It is believed that the “entourage effect” takes place, meaning that the natural parts of the plant work best together for reducing symptoms of anxiety, appetite loss, body pain, and more. But it’s not enough THC to provide a psychotropic experience.

Broad Spectrum. THC is removed from broad spectrum extract but the cannabinoids remain, including CBG, CBC, CBN, and others. Research is ongoing and we learn more about the benefits of these lesser-known types as time goes on. CBG shows promise as a sleep aid and cancer cell inhibitor, while CBC helps reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

Isolate. For those who prefer to stick with strictly CBD, which has been studied much more extensively, and also don’t want (or can’t have) any THC, isolates are the perfect option. Even alone, CBD can help with autoimmune disorders and even epilepsy.

Your body produces endocannabinoids to heal itself, and the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant mirror those and fill in gaps where the body may be deficient. We seem to have a very close relationship to this plant, as CB-2 receptors are found throughout the human body and those of mammals like your family dog.
