  • 3 Ways to Hack your Goal-Setting Strategy

    September 16, 2022 3 min read

When was the last time you evaluated the most recent goals you set for yourself? What about your goals for the last five years? If many of them are still hanging in the air, you might have to reconsider your process. Follow these easy steps to hack your way to your goals.

    1. Invest time to get specific about your goals

One of the biggest mistakes we tend to make is coming up with vague objectives. You may start with the general picture, but devoting time to narrow down your options and getting granular and quantative about them will be a game changer. For example, “I want to start running” is very different from “I want to run for 30 minutes in the mornings, three times a week.” Turn your desire into measurable action.

    2. Think of your goals in present tense instead of future tense

Once you have a list of your detailed and measurable goals, it’s time to consider the wording. Gary John Bishop talks about the importance of being assertive instead of narrative.

When we focus on what we will do in the future, our goals lose their power. Instead, rearrange your language to convey your confidence in making changes at this very moment. Try using statements like “I am healthy” instead of “I will be healthy.”

    3. Remember your Why & have tools to use when you feel stuck

Remembering why you’re striving to achieve your objectives is paramount to maintaining your motivation. Ask yourself how you want to feel? Who do you want to be? Visualize the answers and come back to them whenever you need to stay on track.

Don’t forget to turn to yoga when you feel yourself waiver. A constant yoga practice, regardless of the style, along with meditations and breathing exercises, will help ground you and cleanse your mind from negative self-talk.
