Yoga Mat Q's

Yoga Mats, just like yoga practices, have many different styles. Ranging from thickness to the material being used to create the mat - the possibilities may seem endless. So choosing a yoga mat can seem daunting at first - but once you identify your needs and the style of yoga you practice, you'll be able to choose your perfect mat.

Here are some important factors to keep in mind as you search for your perfect mat:

What kind of yoga do you practice?

For Yin style practices, a thicker cushioned yoga mat might be a good choice as yin yoga requires holding a pose for longer periods of time. Mats can range from 1.5mm to 8mm. For restorative or yin, we recommend a mat that is 4mm or more.

For Hot Yoga, it would be better to have a sticky mat so that the yoga mat grips the floor and you don't slip during your practice. Cork and rubber mats are excellent choices if you're looking for traction.

Where will you be practicing yoga?

If you are planning on transporting your mat, a lightweight mat may be a priority. If you are planning on practicing outdoors, you may want a closed-cell construction for a hygienic practice.Thin mats are generally used for travel or adding on top of the mat you have for additional support.

How tall are you? If you are taller than 6', you are going to want a "long" mat.

At Mukha Yoga, we have many different styles of yoga mats from brands such as yogi favorites: Manduka, Jade Yoga, Yoloha, Hugger Mugger, Shakti Yoga, B Yoga, and more.
